Looking for something new to add to your New Year’s Resolutions for 2025? Look no further! Taking part in a paid clinical trial could be a great benefit to you and to countless people living with a variety of physical and mental health conditions around the world.
What are Clinical Trials?
Clinical trials are the backbone of medical advancement. They test new treatments, refine existing ones, and explore innovative approaches to prevention and care. Over 6000 clinical trials have taken place between 2023 and 20241.
Volunteers for clinical trials are integral to developing new medicines. Without clinical research, there would be no new or improved medications.
Simple pain relief medications such as paracetamol and aspirin have all gone through the clinical trial process, and it is this same process that is responsible for identifying tomorrow’s treatments; every year, millions of people around the world take part in clinical trials.
MAC Clinical Research’s Trials
In 2024, MAC Clinical Research ran clinical trials in various therapeutic areas such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), depression, fatty liver disease, diabetic neuropathy, osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia and more. Recruitment for research opportunities will also continue and start in the new year. There are many clinical trials that you may be eligible for with MAC Clinical Research at our clinics across the UK. We have clinical research opportunities investigating medications for:
- Specific Health Conditions: you must be living with the relevant condition to be eligible to take part (however other eligibility criteria will apply depending on the trial).
- Healthy Volunteer Clinical Trials: these are often referred to as ‘first in human’ or ‘phase one’ trials, which investigate how safe the study medication is and how it is processed by the human body. In 2022, the UK was ranked fourth in the world for the number of Phase I clinical trials conducted that year2.
Furthermore, if there isn’t a current trial that’s suited to you, you can always register your interest for future studies, and we’ll be in touch if a trial becomes available that is suited to you and your circumstances.
Why Get Involved?
The benefits for taking part in clinical research include:
- Advancing healthcare – By taking part in a clinical trial, you’re helping to advance healthcare and better treatment options. By taking part in a MAC clinical trial, you can take an enormous sense of pride in the knowledge that you are helping identify treatments that may benefit future generations. In one survey, 64% of clinical trial participants stated the main reason they participated in a clinical trial was because they believed the trial results could benefit others3.
- Financial reimbursement – Depending on the trial, you will often receive payment for your time and commitment. Whether the trial offers payment or not, however, taking part in a trial is always free and we will either provide transport or reimburse your travel costs.
- Health check-up – MAC will provide you with a comprehensive health-check if you take part in a trial; before your participation, you will undergo a thorough medical screening with one of our doctors. We work with your GP throughout a trial and keep them updated on your progress along the way. We can provide your doctor with test results such as scans, X-Rays, and blood samples to assist them in your on-going care.
