Taking part in a clinical trial

Looking for something new to add to your New Year’s Resolutions for 2023? Look no further! Taking part in a paid clinical trial could be a great benefit to you and to countless people living with a variety of physical and mental health conditions around the world.

Volunteers for clinical trials are integral to developing new medicines. If it weren’t for clinical research, there would be no new or improved medications. Simple pain relief such as paracetamol and aspirin have all gone through the clinical trial process and it is this same process that is responsible for identifying tomorrow’s treatments; every year millions of people around the world take part in clinical trials.

Here at MAC, we had a large number of people take part in our clinical trials last year, testing potential new and improved treatment options for conditions such as eczema, diabetic neuropathy, OCD, depression, COPD and more!

There are many clinical trials that you may be eligible for with MAC Clinical Research at our clinics across the UK. We have clinical research investigating medications for:

  • Specific health conditions: you must be living with the relevant condition to be eligible to take part (however other eligibility criteria will apply depending on the study). These trials test the efficacy of a certain study medication on the condition.
  • Healthy volunteer clinical trials: these are often referred to as ‘first in human’ trials, which investigate how safe the study medication is and how it reacts to the human body.

Furthermore, if there isn’t a current trial that’s suited to you, you can always register your interest for future studies, and we’ll be in touch if a trial becomes available that is suited to you and your circumstances.

What are the benefits of taking part in a clinical trial?

There are a number of benefits for taking part in a clinical research study.

  • Advancing healthcare

By taking part in a clinical trial, you’re helping to advance healthcare and better treatment options. By taking part in a MAC clinical trial, you can take an enormous sense of pride in the knowledge that you are helping to identify treatments that may benefit you and the lives of our future generations.

  • Financial reimbursement

Depending on the study you have taken part in, you will often receive payment for your time and commitment. This can vary depending on the study itself, however, whether the study offers payment or not, taking part in a trial is always free and we will either provide transport or reimburse your travel costs in full.

  • Health check-up

MAC will provide you with a comprehensive health-check if you take part in a trial; before your participation, you will undergo a thorough medical screening with one of our doctors. We work with your GP throughout a study and keep them updated on your progress along the way. We can provide your doctor with test results such as scans, X-Rays, and blood samples to assist them in your on-going care.

  • Potential health benefits

Our team of healthcare specialists understand your condition and will ensure your care at all times. The additional medical assistance that we provide could aid the possible relief of your symptoms and give you better control of your illness during a study.
