About This clinical research study
Clinical research projects are performed as a way of bringing about progress in medicine and research. Clinical research projects make it possible to scientifically assess the properties of a drug, to demonstrate the effectiveness and safety of a treatment or a medical device, or to learn more about a disease and methods to diagnose and monitor it.
The purpose of this trial is to test the study drug COMP360 which is being developed for the treatment of depression.
There is an unmet need for new and improved treatments to help those suffering from low mood and depression. Many people do not respond appropriately or suffer side-effects from current approved medications, which can result in patients not taking them.
The study medication COMP360 is a man-made form of the psychedelic drug psilocybin. Psilocybin is a controlled drug and a chemical compound found in some species of mushrooms. Recent studies have suggested that psilocybin may help in treating depression due to its action on the serotonin system in the brain which is linked to the regulation of mood.
By participating in this clinical trial, you may be helping to contribute to the development of a new treatment option for people suffering from low mood and depression.
