About This clinical research study

GAD is an anxiety disorder that causes fear, worry and a constant feeling of being overwhelmed. Anxiety disorders are the most common of all the mental health conditions, Generalised Anxiety Disorder being the most prevalent, and very different to Social Anxiety Disorder. While it is natural to worry or feel anxious about certain things, people with GAD will experience feelings of excessive and persistent worry about everyday things for long periods, often lasting 6 months or longer. Other anxiety symptoms may include restlessness, irritability, forgetfulness, difficulty concentrating, indecisiveness, trouble sleeping, fatigue, heart palpitations, aches in the head, stomach or muscles and unexplained pain. It often goes undiagnosed as a panic attack or anxiety attack is not a common symptom and people suffering with GAD often believe they are “just worrying too much”.

If you have a diagnosis of Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD), or have been feeling fearful, worried or overwhelmed on a daily basis about everyday things, with one or more of the above symptoms for 6 months or longer you may be interested in a clinical anxiety research opportunity running at MAC Clinical Research investigating a potential treatment for GAD.

Reimbursement: Up to £2500 plus transport or reasonable travel expenses will be provided based on completed visits.

A full description of the clinical trial will be given before you decide to take part, both over the phone and during an appointment at a MAC clinic. This will include you receiving the full patient information sheet (PIS).

This anxiety clinical trial will evaluate the investigational medicine at differing doses and against placebo (a “dummy” medicine with no active ingredient) there is a 75% chance of receiving the investigational anxiety treatment and 25% chance of receiving placebo.

The investigational medicine is a compound which regulates certain signal pathways in the brain believed to reduce anxiety symptoms, in previous studies it has been shown to be safe and well tolerated.

The trial could last up to 84 days and would include up to 6 outpatient visits to the clinic.
