About This clinical research study

Clinical trials are research projects, performed as a way of bringing about progress in medicine and research. Clinical research projects make it possible to scientifically assess the properties of a study medication, to demonstrate the effectiveness and safety of a treatment or a medical device, or to learn more about a disease and methods to diagnose and monitor it.

Here at MAC we are looking for people who would like to take part in clinical trials researching potential new treatments for vulvodynia (provoked vestibulodynia).

Vulvodynia is a vulvar pain disorder, which causes hurting during penetration which can be pain during tampon use, discomfort during intercourse or even with just touch. Symptoms of vulvar pain include feelings of burning, throbbing, stabbing or soreness which can be constant or intermittent, for example, having pain during sex. When pain or burning during penetration, that is at the opening of the vagina, this is known as vestibulodynia. Exact causes of vulvodynia are not widely known, and it is often difficult to diagnose as other conditions need to be ruled out first, for example vaginitis, STI’s or dyspareunia (painful sexual intercourse). For more information there are vulvodynia and vestibulodynia NHS resources available online – Vulvodynia (vulval pain) – NHS.

If you have a diagnosis or symptoms of vulvodynia (provoked vestibulodynia) with pain experienced for at least 12 months, you may be eligible to participate in one of our upcoming clinical trials.

A full description of the clinical trial will be given before you decide to take part, during an appointment at a MAC clinic. This will include you receiving the patient information sheet and an opportunity to ask the clinical research doctor any questions.

Reimbursement: You may be compensated up to £1730 for your time and commitment plus reasonable travel expenses will be reimbursed or transport provided.
