Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder / PTSD

Reimbursement: Up to £2820 plus transport or reasonable travel expenses will be provided based on completed visits.

About This clinical research study

If you have a diagnosis of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), sometimes referred to as post traumatic syndrome, trauma disorder or post stress syndrome, and have had symptoms for 6 months or longer you may be interested in a clinical trial running at MAC Clinical Research investigating a potential treatment for PTSD.

PTSD is a mental health disorder that can develop after someone experiences or witnesses a life-threatening traumatic event. It can lead to experiencing nightmares and flashbacks, avoidance of situations that trigger a return to the stressful event (for example, people may suffer anxiety or panic attacks), and constantly feeling on edge, which can affect work, personal and social lives.

This clinical trial will test the effectiveness of an investigational medication compared to placebo (inactive medication) for treating the symptoms of PTSD; there is a 50% chance of receiving methylone or placebo.

Reimbursement: Up to £2820 plus transport or reasonable travel expenses will be provided based on completed visits.

A full description of the clinical trial will be given before you decide to take part, both over the phone and during an appointment at a MAC clinic. This will include you receiving the full patient information sheet (PIS).

The investigational medicine is a psychoactive compound, which means it affects how the brain works, which can cause changes in mood, awareness, thoughts, feelings, or behaviour. Recently, it has been shown the investigational medicine may help in managing the symptoms of PTSD. The investigational medicine can create a strong sense of emotional openness, reduced fear, and increased understanding of feelings, which could be well suited as a treatment for PTSD, which can arise following exposure to traumatic events.

The trial could last up to 92 days and would include up to 14 outpatient visits to the clinic, some of which may be done via video call, and 4 of which will be for dosing with the investigational medicine or placebo. There will also be 5 telephone calls.

Reimbursement: Up to £2820 plus transport or reasonable travel expenses will be provided based on completed visits.

ABOUT CLINICAL RESEARCH STUDIES

Clinical research studies are performed as a way of bringing about progress in medicine and research. Clinical research studies make it possible to scientifically assess the properties of a drug, to demonstrate the effectiveness and safety of a treatment or a medical device, or to learn more about a disease and methods to diagnose and monitor it.

If the study is successful, it may be an important step towards developing a promising new treatment.

MAC Clinical Research is currently conducting a trial to test a new potential treatment for PTSD.
